Can a battery operated electronic cigarette actually help you to quit smoking. It appears that the answer is yes. More and more people are trying this new device and are having very good success in quitting smoking. Now, I am always very skeptical about these so called "miracle cures" but this one seems to be very promising. What makes the electronic cigarette so special is that you actually do all of the motions that you would in smoking a cigarette. Thedeviceis shaped just like a cigarette and the tip of the unit actually lights up to mimic the burning on the end of a cigarette.
Upon purchasing this device you will receive one or two batteries, one atomizer, and most likely several cartridges. The cartridges contain nicotine and come in several strengths and varieties such as high, medium, low and no nicotine, menthol vs Marlboro flavors and some even have artificial food flavors such as cherry, banana, and pina colada. These units take around 12 hours to charge the first time you use the unit and then take only about 3 hours to charge each night for the next day. The cartridges will generally last approximately a day but it depends on how many drags you actually take during the day. An average cartridge will supply you with at least 100 drags off the unit before needing to be changed. You end up getting nicotine from these units from the combination of the atomizer and the cartridge itself. Basically the atomizer gives off vapor that goes through the nicotine cartridge so you end up inhaling vapor with nicotine in it. This is of course absorbed b y your lungs into the bloodstream just like a cigarette does. The vapor is harmless and actually dissipates in the air almost immediately after you exhale. There is no smell to the vapor either.
The units vary widely in price ranging from several hundreds of dollars to ones that can be found for around $50. The cartridges run about $2.00-$3.00 a piece but deals can be found when you purchase bundle packs. I purchased one a few weeks ago off of eBay foraround $50 and then spent another $30 for 20 additional cartridges. The actual unit came with 5 cartridges with varying strengths. The ultimate purpose would be to wean yourself off of the nicotineby decreasing your cartridge strength as time goes by. The one thing I was surprised about though was that they actually had zero nicotine cartridges......In my opinion I will not need to even use this device anymore when I get to zero nicotine so these are basically worthless.
The biggest advantage to using these cigarettes is improving your overall health and not smoking. It has been proven that these cigarettes are harmless and that the nicotine is not the dangerous part of smoking. But rather it is the tar and other carcinogens in the cigarette smoke that is the unhealthy part. This can be easily demonstrated in having a smoker take a drag off of their cigarette and then blow through a paper towel or napkin. A brown stain will appear on the napkin showing how much damage is being done to the lungs. Now take a drag off of the electronic cigarette and do the same thing and blow through the napkin. You will not see any stain appear at all. I actually did this and was very impressed with how clean the napkinstayed after doing this several times.
So what can I conclude about these electroniccigarettes? As of right now, I can definitely say that I am very impressed with the results I have gotten. I have been smoke free for almost a month now (first time in over 15 years I can say that!) and have weaned myself down from a high nicotine level to a medium with a switch to low coming up in a week. I honestly feel that I have actually kicked the habit for good this time. What was the most amazing part of using the electronic cigarette was that I did not really feel like I needed to go smoke at any time while using it.
So, in conclusion, if you are looking to try one of these devices out, I would definitely recommend it. It is one of the best decisions I have made in my life recently. So go ahead and grab one and quit smoking today.
